About Roz

Roz Johnson

I have always been interested in sewing and being creative from a very early age.  I have tried a number of different mediums, from drawing to embroidery, tapestry and even knitting, but sewing I love the most.

Sewing became my obsession and then I discovered patchwork and quilting, there were so many beautiful fabrics and so many ways that they could be used.  I began by making small projects from patterns and then eventually started to design my own.  This was the beginning of my creative journey from where I am today.

I decided to follow my passion more and took City & Guilds patchwork and quilting course online with Linda and Laura Kemshall. Since doing the course I have began teaching patchwork and quilting in my local quilt shops and designing projects for magazines.

I have a strong need to be creative and my life would not be complete without that creativity. This is the drive that makes me continually want to design, paint, stitch and quilt. I have a passion to create with fabric and thread and to explore ways to use textiles as an artistic medium. I am inspired by the natural world which I use frequently as a resource when looking for new ideas for my work. The techniques that I mostly use range from - and are often combined are - fabric dyeing, machine applique, painting on fabric, hand and machine embroidery. All of the work that I produce is taken from an original source, ideas and techniques are developed and one of a kind pieces are created that are unique to me.
